Great find I found Manila Bay by doing a search for Filipino restaurants in Philadelphia (my wife is part Filipino and we have enjoyed the food at her parents and at home). My family (wife and 3 kids) went early on a Saturday night . The person on the phone when I called for a reservation was very friendly and that warmness greeted us when we arrived and continued the entire night. It was not busy at first, but picked up as the night went on. Our server was knowledgable, prompt, courteous and helpful. The food (lumpia-Filipino spring rolls, spare ribs, 2 kinds of pancit noodle dishes, 2 kinds of adobo and all 3 desserts) were well made and nicely presented and were served fresh and hot. The prices are low (about $8-9 per entree) and the portions are sizable. We had not been to that part of NE Philadelphia before and were pleasantly surprised by the number and variety of ethnic restaurants in the area. It reminded us of Upper Darby where our favorite Vietnamese restaurant resides. W...

The first (and only) Filipino restaurant in the city is totally authentic in the menu selections, prepared by a native of the islands. A few artifacts suggestive of the homeland are all that distinguish this small restaurant (with its lively bar) from any other storefront restaurants in this Northeast Philadelphia area that harbors a variety of diverse ethnic eateries. This restaurant serves up a Philippine cuisine. Expect the average entrée to cost $8 to

Serving Filipino favorites like Adobo and Pancit, this bar and grill is sure to make you feel like you've traveled to Manila. As the first and only Filipino restaurant in the Philadelphia area, this is one place you don't want to miss.

My wife and I wanted to give our son and daughter in law a little R&R, to get over a bad patch. What we got instead, was a first class trip to the Philipines, by way of 'Manila Bay'. Not only did our children have a blast, but so did me and my wife! The food is melt in your mouth delicious, the staff treats you like family, and the live band is so good, that we were exhausted from clapping, stomping our feet, playing air guitar and drums and singing along, to the most diverse mix of tunes I have experienced in many years. Manila Bay is hands down, the best place to go, when you truly want to have a good

Manila Bay is a wonderful restaurant, not just for Filipinos, but for anyone interested in an economical, great tasting meal. I have enjoyed the typical Filipino staple for over 20 years now; I discovered Manila Bay about 6 years ago, and it was quite a discovery. A few years ago the restaaurant closed and I was heartbroken. It opened up again under new management and it was as great as ever! The staff are very friendly, portions are more than sufficient, and the prices are reasonable. I love this

"Philippine cuisine has evolved over several centuries, influenced by East Asian, Indian, Chinese, Arabian, Japanese, Malay, Spanish and American cooking. Filipinos traditionally eat three main meals a day - almusal (breakfast), tanghalian (lunch), and hapunan (dinner) plus an afternoon snack called merienda. Dishes range from a simple meal of fried fish and rice to rich paellas and cocidos. Popular dishes include lechón (whole roasted pig), longanisa (native sausage), tapa (beef jerky), torta (omelette), adobo (chicken and/or pork braised in garlic, soy sauce, and vinegar or cooked until dry for the Visayan variety), kaldereta (goat in tomato stew), mechado (beef or pork cooked in tomato sauce, pochero (beef in bananas and tomato sauce), afritada (chicken cooked in tomato sauce and vegetables), kare-kare (oxtail and vegetables cooked in peanut sauce), crispy pata (deep-fried pig's foot), hamonado (pork sweetened in pineapple sauce), sinigang (pork, fish, or shrimp in tamarind stew), p...

Yes, the name refers to the same Manila Bay where Admiral Dewey and friends sank the Spanish fleet, after which the Philippines became an American colony and, eventually, an independent country. But history is a side dish and food the main course at Manila Bay, the first and (we think) the only Filipino restaurant in the Philadelphia area, and the place to experience a cuisine that's a unique blend of Chinese, Spanish, American and native Filipino influences. Manila Bay is close to Route 1 and I-95. It's on the so-called "ethnic strip" of businesses on Castor Avenue in the city's Northeast section, which experienced major population changes in the latter part of the 20th century. It has a small bar and a dining area that seats about 50. The menu includes Filipino specialties as well as some Chinese and Japanese dishes. The chef, when asked to generalize, told us that Filipino cuisine includes a lot of vegetables and can sometimes be similar to Chinese, but without all the soy sau...

Truly a great restaurant... Very friendly atmosphere, the staff is marvelous and the food is superb. I have traveled to the Philippines, 15 times; Manila Bay serves authentic Filipino cuisine. Even though the prices have gone up recently, it is still a very good deal for the money. As the previous reviewer stated, it is a great place to watch sports. The place really gets to jumping for boxing events; especially if a Filipino boxer is featured! One of my favorite restaurants in the Delaware
